One of the best destinations in the world to see orangutans is Tanjung Puting National Park. In a beautiful setting in a wooden boat, called “Klotok”, you cruise through the jungle for several days.
At the center of Tanjung Puting National Park – also called the Nucleus Zone – is a dense, primary rainforest with a rich wildlife. Access to this area is prohibited for visitors in order to keep the eco system intact.
Only Tanjung Puting’s outer area – also called the Utilization Zone – is accessible to visitors. While it is the only accessible area, the Utilization Zone only covers a tiny part of the National Park. Under the supervision of rangers also several selected paths in the so-called Buffer Zone – in between the central and outer area – are accessible.
